unwords, unthoughts, unreason, unrhyme & unpoetry

caterpillars, cocoons & butterflies

Hung up, Cut off

You breathe all too suddenly,

Playing under covers.

Smiling.

Dead letter day, ten days too late

She will return to you,

Lost in fate.

Distorted innocence, waiting

For the misconception,

Of perfection.

You are missing in the rain

Bear with me, words

In the wind.

hmmm

at first I was thinking the title was communicating that you were hung up on (like you were talking on the phone and they hung up on you)

and the cut off meant that you were going to cutt that person out of your life (a semi direct consequence of being hung up on…. what the ’straw number’ it was it appeared to be the last.

but after absorbing the words a little more it seems more likely to be hung up as in can’t forget or can’t let go.

and cut off as in your time spent with that person at present is nil (relatively speaking compared to the past)

i don’t know.

BUT

the line I cannot come up with anything for is the
“Dead letter day, ten days too late”

and I think i described my thoughts wrong. It is really the exact opposite of not being able to come up with anything for this.

really

it’s that I can come up with too many (10-20) meanings of significance. So it would be better communication if i instead said “i cannot narrow down or pinpoint a specific meaning.

ahhhh if only communicating was easier. If people were able to significantly cut down misunderstandings…. the world would be a much happier and love filled place.

can you imagine a world where you were rarely misunderstood?

all the meanings are correct, it can be read both ways, it was meant in both ways so it depends how you take it, your first guess was right, the title was the inspiration to the poem since the person i was talking to hung up on me / cut me off (that was nice of him) Dead letter day is a play on red letter day, expecting something and not getting it. It might be quite a dull world it everyone always understood each other….?
